What do you do to improve your legs strength?
Does practicing the forms everyday seem enough?
More push-hands?
Anything else?

thanks for feedback

Lun Hu Quan way
Standing in low mabu for 1 to 15 minutes.

Taijiquan way:
form - low stances very slow (example one Lao Jia Elu should take 20-30 minutes )
silk reeling - low stances (5-10-15 minutes without break)
ZZ - 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Chen Zhaokui

P.S. Warning your legs will soar, shake, have feeling of hot water streaming - it's normal:)

Hey Isabelle,

When I was studying Southern Dragon Kung Fu, we would get into horse stance with our arms straight out but relaxed in front. Then we would do very slow knee bends, concentrating on the Dan Tien, chi flow & measured breathing. It would take about 30 seconds to go to extreme low position & 30 seconds to return to upright position. Believe me, you really feel it in your legs, especially your thighs! If it's too much, you can go down 10 seconds & up 10 seconds. Good luck!

thank you guys.
Another question : What does ZZ do that the forms do not, what does it add to your form practice?
Other than leg strength of course as we just talked about this!
What does it bring to you? Meditation, sensitivity?

ZZ actually gave me a great understanding of the balance believe it or not. It also gave me some basic leg strength, but I think form in this respect gives more due to variety of stances

By the way Isabelle I just want to point something out. I noticed that some people have good strong legs, but yet seems like missing good rooting in PH.
I think both leg strength and the form contribute to improving overall good rooting. In fact I keep discovering a lot of problems with my laojia even though the form seems feel pretty comfortable. Fixing those errors helps me to improve my rooting all the time

Thanks Scott and Andrey,
Yes, I agree : not only strength, balance, and I will add kua training are vital.

After thinking about this topic and trying different things, I currently believe that practicing the forms and the fa jin moves help strengthening legs plus balance and kua. All is in form practice.
I also take some moves from the forms and repeat them over as exercises.
And yes, silk reelings...
