Greetings!

How to introduce an old man who has no knowledge as such concerning martial arts?
I'm a 60 year old retiree with a few health problems that restrict the physical activities (so my doctor says) that I am allowed to do.
I wrestled and played football in high school before I joined the military and went to Vietnam during the 60's. While there I had the opportunuity to receive an introduction to taekwando from the Korean forces that were stationed close to us. What we learned was strictly for combat use and had little to do with formal taekwandoe training I believe.
After the military, I went to university and continued wrestling and football. I continued playing amature footaball until I was 40 and then stopped because of increased responsibilities where I worked.
I use a cane to get around although I should probably use crutches to keep from developing problems from the one side use of it. I was looking for exercises that I could use to balance that out and allow me to get some type of physical exercise. I happened to see a demonstartion on YouTube of someone using a cane for self-defense and my internet search led me to Healthways.
My fiancé, who also has some health problems, started studies in Wing Chun last year and has lessons 4 times a week. She always needs a sparing partner (did I say dummy?). Although the course uses what appears to be the 108 chen style, there are four additional forms making it 112.
Through my prior experience with wrestling, basic jujitzu and, call it "combat karate", I still react quickly and am able to get her in attacks or holds that she is unable to counter yet (I guess I had better watch out in the future). I would rather learn on my own right now and hope to be able to use the DVD's for self help.
"Seemed like a good idea at the time."
