Push Hands DVD?

Postby Oolong on Mon Dec 01, 2008 3:57 pm

Sorry if this has been asked already, but a search of the forum didn't turn up any anything that I could find...

Does Master Tsao have any thoughts or plans to create a Push Hands Instructional DVD? If so, near future, far future?

Just curious, thanks.

Hello Oolong,
There are three DVDs featured push hands applications:

1.Tai Chi Symbol Tracing Hands & Application
2.Tai Chi Application for Self-Defense in Simplified Form 24
3.Tai Chi Application in Chen Old Old Frame Routine One

You can find them here

I have no idea. Ask Jesse :-)

Push hands is not easy to learn "for real", I imagine it's not easy to transmit the knowledge by DVD. The primary goal of push-hands it to train the sensitivity. The Chen system has a very nice progression, from simple flat circles to random moving steps, based on the peng-lu-ji-anh basic form. Look for Chen Zhenglei & push hands on YouTube.

The name "push-hands" is actually quite confusing, because it leads us to think that this it about "pushing". It's not.

I remember Jesse once mentioned that the initial name (in Chinese) for push-hands was something like knead-hands. I think it conveys better the meaning.

Good luck.

Thank you, alain! I completely agree with you and understand what you are writing. I am looking for something that might cover the basic fundamentals so that a partner and myself could watch and attempt to learn and practice together. Like we would to learn the applications aspects.
