I would like to introduce myself to you if I may. My name is Brian Kennedy. I have recently returned to San Diego, California after having lived in Taiwan for 15 years. In Taiwan I lived in San Chung City which is across the river from Taipei.
While I was in Taiwan my wife and coauthored Chinese Martial Arts Training Manuals: A Historical Survey. That book is published by North Atlantic Books. We also write on a regular basis for Classical Fighting Arts magazine and Kung Fu Taiji magazine. We are working on a second Chinese martial arts history book that will discuss the place of the Jing Wu (Chin Woo) Association in the modern history of Chinese martial arts.
She and I also write for the Journal of Daoist Studies and are about half done with a book that will discuss Qing and Republican Era Daoist training manuals.
I have studied and enjoyed Chinese martial arts since 1976. Over the years I have practiced Hung Gar, Xingyi, Cheng style Pakua, Cheng Man Ching’s Taiji, Taiwanese Crane Boxing and a bit of western boxing, judo and grappling.
By profession I am an attorney at law who worked as both a prosecutor and public defender. While I was in Taiwan I taught American criminal law for Soo Chow School of Law and for the Taiwanese Judges and Prosecutors Institute.
I look forward to meeting and talking with you folks. I am trying to get reacquaned with the San Diego Chinese martial arts community. I started my martial arts career here in San Diego back in 1976 at the Ching Yi Kung Fu Association on University Ave. I was going to San Diego State at the time.
Take care,
Brian
